Jacobus van 't Hoff

Jacobus van 't Hoff proposed that carbon atoms arrange their bonds in three dimensions as a tetrahedron, founding the study of molecular shape. He received the first Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his work on chemical thermodynamics and solutions.
